After leaving the military, Dr. Cohen returned to Atlanta and resumed his optometric practice until his retirement in 1983. He gave to numerous charitable causes and was a member of many organizations including the AA Synagogue (of which he also served as a board member), the Atlanta Jewish Community Center, B'nai Brith, and thee Standard Club. He also served as the president of the Progressive Club. A man with a great sense of humor and a wonderful singing ability, Dr. Cohen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauline Saul Cohen, his two sons, Stanley and Walter, and his daughter-in-law, Lisa. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Michael, Brian, and David Cohen and by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins, and his friend, Gloria Jackson.
