Mr. Mendel was born in Covington, Ga., and was a lifelong Atlanta resident. He served in the 87th Infantry Division in World War II, was associated with the Hill Manufacturing Company for 57 years and was a lifelong member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lee Mendel; children, Dr. Bobby Mendel of Mobile, Ala., Betsy Mendel of Los Angeles and Richard and Lori Mendel of Snellville; brother and his companion, Herbert Mendel and Lois Berch; sister and brother-in-law, Sunny and Nelson Cohen of Terre Haute, Ind.; brother- and sister-in-law, Irving and Joan May of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Rayne and Zach Mendel of Snellville, Colby Mendel and Carter Stevens of Mobile; and many nieces and nephews.
